Enterostomal Therapy Unit
The ostomy care service came into being after the necessities brought up in our daily clinic practice. Health teams have to offer careful assistance to patients that encounter the new –and sometimes difficult- situation of being ostomized in order for them to overcome it and enjoy a good quality of life.
Negative factors such as fear of health loss, fear of being rejected by their relatives, change of habits, doubt of being or not being able to successfully overcome this new situation and the anxiety created by ignorance on the subject influence the process.
The General and Digestive Surgery Department of Madrid Norte Sanchinarro Hospital offers comprehensive and personal assistance to patients and their relatives. This assistance is possible thanks to the qualified staff in this area: Ainoa Jiménez DUE, and Alberto Lado, both with a degree in Nursing at San Pablo CEU University (Madrid). This assistance is primarily based on giving health education at any stage of the process that the patient may be experiencing.
